Republican Senator Ted Cruz criticized his party after its defeat in the midterm elections, saying too many Republican politicians had either failed to understand the economic concerns of voters or shown little interest in them. In an analysis posted on X, the Texas senator described the result as a defeat of historic proportions, comparable to the Watergate era.
Cruz said many Americans’ financial situation had worsened before the election. He pointed to high gasoline prices, rising home foreclosures and vehicle repossessions, as well as a record number of people donating blood plasma each week.
In Cruz’s view, the economic pressure on households was a major factor in the Republicans’ defeat.
