Munich-based quantum computing startup Quint has raised €9.1 million in its first funding round, around a year after its founding. The company says it is the largest amount raised at this early stage by a German company in the sector.

Quint is working on a chip architecture intended to reduce errors in quantum computers. Error correction is a significant challenge because quantum computers currently make many errors, and the effort needed to correct them is a major cost driver.

The company’s approach aims to minimize errors directly on the chip, which could reduce the work required for correction. Quint co-founder Christopher Eichler said the company had built strong momentum, while co-founder Michael Hartmann, who previously worked on Google’s quantum team, said the field had moved beyond basic research.
