Gas deliveries to Europe via Ukraine are currently not possible, according to the Kremlin. The development comes as a key Russian pumping station is reported to be on fire.
The facility is an important hub in Russia’s pipeline network, with storage capacity of more than 1.6 million cubic metres. It processes supplies from western Siberia and Kazakhstan.
Transneft, Russia’s pipeline operator, as well as Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry and KazTransOil, had not initially responded to requests for comment.
Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, governor of the Samara region, said on a Russian social media channel that the site had been targeted by a Ukrainian drone attack. The hub had already reportedly been targeted several times in October.
