Several regional facilities of France’s blood service were affected by Monday’s Cyberattack on refrigeration systems, the French health ministry said on Wednesday. The incident disrupted some monitoring and control systems in refrigerated rooms, but the ministry said the stored blood supplies were not damaged.

The ministry said monitoring and alarm systems, along with immediate precautionary measures, helped ensure the safety of the blood supplies. The situation is now under control and is being closely monitored.

Authorities are investigating how the attackers gained access, which equipment may have been affected and when it can be safely returned to service.

The attack also targeted supermarkets in several European countries, including Sweden, Belgium, Ireland and Germany. Temperature settings in some refrigeration and freezer units were changed, causing large quantities of food to spoil and be discarded.
