Bosch plans to cut a further 750 jobs at its Abstatt site in Germany’s Heilbronn district by the end of 2029. The company said it aims to implement the reductions in a socially responsible way. The positions are in its mobility division.
Bosch attributed the cuts to difficult economic conditions and major changes in the automotive industry. Global vehicle production has stagnated, the company said, while demand in Europe has declined. It also pointed to growing pressure on cost, speed and productivity, particularly from Asian suppliers. Bosch’s mobility division is especially affected by job reductions in Germany; a company spokesperson said more than 23,000 positions in the division are due to be eliminated over different periods.
At Abstatt, Bosch said demand is shifting toward more cost-effective braking solutions. The company cited stronger price competition in integrated braking systems and the arrival of lower-cost Asian competitors in Europe. It also said brake-by-wire technologies are increasingly being introduced first with Chinese customers and developed alongside Bosch’s local site, reducing the capacity needed in Abstatt.
Around 5,300 people work at the site. Its Vehicle Motion division develops and sells braking systems, vehicle-motion software, occupant-protection systems and automotive sensors. Bosch said the cuts will not affect its Cross-Domain Computing Solutions division or its subsidiary Bosch Engineering GmbH.
Bosch reported revenue of €46.4 billion in the first half of 2026, up 3.6% from the same period a year earlier. The increase was mainly driven by acquisitions, including the previous year’s purchase of Johnson Controls’ and Hitachi’s heating, ventilation and air-conditioning businesses. Adjusted earnings before interest and taxes fell to €2.2 billion from €2.3 billion.
