British deep-tech company Viridi has raised €2.6 million (£2.2 million) in a round led by Odyssey Ventures. Alphatron Impact Ventures also invested, alongside follow-on commitments from existing angel investors. TOP Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Thaioil, joined as a strategic investor.

Viridi plans to use the funding to scale its technology, strengthen its team and expand into Asia and the US. The round follows a €3.3 million seed raise in 2023.

A spinout from the University of Southampton’s School of Chemistry, Viridi was founded in 2020. Its technology uses a catalyst to help manufacturers convert captured carbon dioxide into chemical ingredients, with the aim of replacing fossil-derived inputs without requiring factories to rebuild their existing equipment.

The company’s first major target is surfactants, ingredients used in home and personal care products. Viridi says its platform can be applied to multiple chemical categories using existing manufacturing infrastructure, with the potential to extend into other areas of chemical production.

Viridi launched its first CO₂-based anionic surfactant, Vireya, in 2025. Earlier this year, it also announced a joint development agreement with chemicals company Zschimmer & Schwarz to accelerate the technology’s scale-up and adoption in sustainable surfactants.

TOP Ventures’ investment is intended to support the company’s move into Asian markets. Thaioil Vice President of New S-Curve Business Development Vivat Wongnirund said the technology had been tested in manufacturing environments and could fit into existing industrial operations. Odyssey Ventures said its backing would help Viridi pursue growth in the US as it moves towards commercial deployment.
