Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin ahead of a new round of discussions on ending the war with Russia. Merz announced the visit during a speech at the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It had not been publicly disclosed beforehand for security reasons.

After arriving in Berlin, Zelenskyy said the meeting would address the upcoming talks with Russia, Ukraine’s air defenses and assistance for its strained energy supply. He shared a video of himself leaving his aircraft after landing. Among those welcoming him at the airport was Ukraine’s ambassador, Oleksii Makeiev.

Shortly before Zelenskyy’s arrival, US special envoy Steve Witkoff announced that Russia, Ukraine and the United States were expected to hold another round of talks in Abu Dhabi next Tuesday and Wednesday. The discussions are planned at adviser level and are set to cover postwar security arrangements, de-escalation, humanitarian aid and further steps toward peace, Witkoff said.
