The US midterm elections will decide all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 35 seats in the Senate and 39 governorships. Polls and analysts cited in the report point to Republicans being highly likely to lose their House majority, while Democrats’ chances of gaining control of the Senate have improved in recent weeks.

Democrats have outlined plans for what they would do if they take control of both chambers. Hakeem Jeffries, the party’s representative who is expected to become House speaker if Democrats win a majority, said those who had stolen from, exploited or defrauded the American people would be held accountable.

However, the report notes that The Democrats’ room to act would be limited, even if they win majorities in both chambers.

In his final speech before the midterms, President Donald Trump called the vote the most important midterm election in US history. He delivered the remarks in front of the Lincoln Memorial, with the Washington Monument and Reflecting Pool behind him, but spent the first 20 minutes discussing algae, clogged drains and cracks in the pool’s foundation.
