Ukraine’s Air Alert emergency app, which sends warnings such as notices about incoming air raids, was reportedly hacked, according to Ukrainian officials. Among the false alerts was a warning about radioactive radiation in Kyiv, although no such emergency existed.
The Ukrainian Air Force said on Telegram that the app may have been compromised by the enemy and stressed that there was no radiation threat. Media reports also said that warning sirens sounded in some regions late on Sunday and that the app falsely warned of chemical-weapons attacks.
Authorities urged residents not to click links contained in the emergency-app messages. Air-raid alerts and related regional warnings have become a regular part of daily life in Ukraine during Russia’s war against the country.
