The table outlining weather, hydrogeological and hydraulic alerts and criticality levels is included in the first annex to the operational guidelines signed by the head of Italy’s Civil Protection Department on February 10, 2016.
It classifies each level of criticality and alert according to the type of risk involved: hydrogeological events, hydraulic events and thunderstorms. For every category, the document describes the scenarios that may occur across the country, as well as the possible effects and damage associated with them.
The alert scale differs depending on the risk. For thunderstorms, the highest expected alert level is orange. Hydrogeological risk, by contrast, can reach a red alert. Each color corresponds to a different level of danger and to specific situations identified by the Civil Protection system.
