Italy’s Senate has definitively approved Coltiva Italia, an agriculture package worth more than €1.1 billion. The measure includes funding for generational renewal, wine tourism, inspections and research, as well as support for durum wheat supply-chain agreements and efforts to combat Xylella.
At the centre of the package is the Food Sovereignty Strategy, which will receive €970 million. Of that amount, €70 million will go to a fund that can provide support to supply chains facing difficulties, including those for soft wheat, barley, maize and plant proteins.
The strategy also includes three allocations of €300 million each. One is for “Allevamento Italia,” which aims to strengthen domestic beef production and the cow-calf system, reducing reliance on imports. Another will fund the 2026–30 National Olive Plan, intended to revive Italian olive oil production. The third is for strategic supply chains, with funding to strengthen local networks, improve business competitiveness and support strategic crops.
The package also provides €14.5 million to strengthen research at Crea.
