Italian President Sergio Mattarella has issued a stark warning regarding the economic conditions facing citizens, stating that their standard of living is under attack from inflation and wages that fail to grow. Speaking during his address for Savings Day, the Head of State highlighted how geo-economic and geopolitical conflicts are compounding these issues. He noted that the combination of rising prices and an inactive wage dynamic is directly assaulting the well-being of the population.

Mattarella also addressed the critical role of European unity in mitigating these financial challenges. He argued that a fully integrated Europe serves as the most effective defense mechanism against purely speculative finance. According to the President, current obstacles to the single market, coupled with the relative weakness of long-term savings, are diverting significant resources elsewhere. This diversion, he explained, is stifling investments that could otherwise strengthen Italian society.
