Hypersonica, a British-German defence company founded in 2023, has raised €100 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Lightspeed and General Catalyst. Existing investors, including Plural and 201 Ventures, also participated.
The company is developing hypersonic deep-strike systems designed to operate without ITAR restrictions and to be developed entirely within Europe. Its engineering teams are based at its Munich headquarters and wholly owned London subsidiary.
Led by co-founders Dr. Philipp Kerth and Dr. Marc Ewenz, Hypersonica says its technology addresses the aerodynamic heating challenges associated with flight beyond Mach 5. The company is using advanced materials, control architectures and avionics to support stable and manoeuvrable flight.
Since securing €23.3 million in Series A funding in February 2026, Hypersonica has tested its HS-1 prototype at speeds above Mach 6 across a range exceeding 300 kilometres. The company describes the test as a milestone for privately funded European defence and says its development model can reduce costs by more than 80% compared with conventional approaches.
The new funding will support faster development of the company’s deep-strike systems, more frequent testing, and the expansion of its operations and reindustrialisation activities across Europe. Hypersonica also expects the investment to create hundreds of engineering and manufacturing jobs in the UK and Germany.
The company aims to complete development of its hypersonic deep-strike systems by 2029 while building a wider European technology and manufacturing base capable of supporting production at scale.
