The Unfallatlas, an online resource from Germany’s “Runter vom Gas” road-safety campaign, has been redesigned to make road-accident statistics easier to explore through interactive graphics. One finding highlighted by the site is that police record more injury crashes between 4 and 5 p.m. than during any other hour of the day.

Users can select a federal state on the interactive map to view figures on crashes, injuries and fatalities. Charts also break down accidents by location, including urban areas, rural roads and motorways. Choosing “Germany” displays nationwide statistics, with further details available through the “Show more” option.

The atlas also covers alcohol and drugs in crashes, the types of transport involved when people are injured, and road-user errors associated with the most traffic deaths. Its topics link to background articles from the “Runter vom Gas” campaign.

The atlas is backed by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport and the German Road Safety Council. Its data comes from the Federal Statistical Office. According to council chief executive Stefan Grieger, the redesign builds on a 2020 version and turns complex statistics into accessible interactive charts.
