Germany’s planned “grid package” is intended to prevent the costs of the electricity system from continuing to rise. A central measure, known as the “redispatch reservation,” would deny compensation to new renewable energy installations in areas where the grid is overloaded and cannot absorb their electricity.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs has not put a figure on the potential savings. In a written response to a question from Green Party lawmaker Michael Kellner, State Secretary Frank Wetzel said the amount would depend on several factors, including how many project developers chose to build despite the reservation. The response was reported by Handelsblatt.
Wetzel said the ministry nevertheless expects the proposed measure to reduce overall electricity-system costs. He did not provide an estimate of the expected reduction.
