Gas bills for vulnerable customers in Italy rose by 9.1% in October compared with September, according to the country’s energy regulator, Arera. The increase reflects a sharp rise in wholesale gas prices and affects about 2.3 million customers still enrolled in the protected service for vulnerable users.
For a typical household using 1,100 cubic metres of gas a year, the total reference price reached 176.80 euro cents per cubic metre, including taxes. The gas commodity component alone was priced at 88.36 euros per megawatt-hour.
Gas supply and related activities made up the largest share of the bill, at 97.06 cents per cubic metre, or 54.9% of the total. Retail sales accounted for another 5.83 cents, bringing the combined share of those two components to 58.2%.
Taxes added 41.68 cents per cubic metre, equal to 23.57% of the final price. Transport and meter management cost 27.25 cents, or 15.41%, while system charges accounted for 4.98 cents per cubic metre, or 2.82%.
