Some Grok Bot users reported unexpectedly reaching their weekly usage limits over Halloween weekend, even though they said they had not used SpaceX’s agentic AI service overnight. Reports on X described usage jumping from as little as 50% to 100%.
Elon Musk confirmed in an X post on Sunday that the change was not caused by a technical glitch. Responding to a user, he said the cost of serving Grok Bot was “unsustainably high relative to revenue.” Musk has not explained on his main feed how the limits will change for subscribers going forward.
Grok Bot has been presented as a success for the newly public SpaceX. In a filing last month, the company said AI accounted for 52% of its income. SpaceX’s renamed “Super Intelligence” division reported a profit of $431 million, although that figure would have been higher without $1.2 billion in one-time costs linked to its acquisition of Cursor.
Musk recently described Grok Bot as having “the fastest growth of a product that I’ve ever seen in my life.” He has also continued promoting the service as a tool for helping users buy gifts for their families.
