Democrats celebrated as election results came in, with supporters in Washington and Miami reacting to the announcement that Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff had won in Georgia.
At a watch party in Washington, people stood, applauded and cheered when the result appeared on television screens. In Miami Beach, Amanda Knapp, president of the Miami Beach Democrats, marked each Democratic victory call with a blue heart on a board.
Knapp said she could hardly believe the results and wondered whether they might amount to a “blue wave,” while cautioning that it was too early to say. By 8:23 p.m., election analyst Nate Silver described the night as one Democrats had hoped for.
