The latest edition of “Blickfang,” Handelsblatt’s photographic roundup, spans military exercises, demonstrations, natural events, sport and culture. Its newest image shows a Canadian soldier playing the bagpipes at the NATO exercise “Resolute Reforger 2026” at Jeabpils airfield in Latvia on November 2.

Images from Germany show a damaged jewelry-store window in Frankfurt after clashes that followed Gen Z demonstrations, as well as a youth rally in Cologne. The initiative “Gen Z regelt” called for nationwide protests, with participants expected in more than 30 cities; more than 182,000 people had said they would attend in advance. The collection also features damage to the cruise ship Mein Schiff 3 after it collided with two container ships in Bremerhaven. No one was injured, but the ship’s scheduled trip to the Canary Islands was cancelled for repairs.

The roundup includes the eruption of Mayon volcano in the Philippines, which sent ash 3,000 metres into the air. The country’s volcanology institute raised the alert level and warned that a more dangerous eruption could follow. Another image shows the orbit of candidate dwarf planet 2026 ED138, identified by astronomer Matthew Holman while analyzing data from Chile’s Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Initial estimates put its diameter between 600 and 1,500 kilometres.

Other photographs document a deadly train collision in Spain, the aftermath of Storm Luise in Germany, demonstrations in Albania and France, and a low-water scene on the Rhine. The collection also includes Czech tennis player Katerina Siniakova with her Japan Open trophy, scenes from the Ski World Cup opening in Sölden, and images from the Paris Fashion Week and a North Korean clothing and footwear fair.
