Copenhagen-based biotech company Biograil has raised €20 million to advance its oral device for delivering medicines that would otherwise require an injection. The round was backed by Verve Ventures and Megatrend Invest, while High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) participated through its HTGF Opportunity growth fund.
The funding follows an €8.5 million financing round whose first close, led by Verve Ventures, was announced in July 2025. HTGF led Biograil’s seed syndicate in 2019. The company was founded that year and says it is developing its proprietary BIONDD technology to deliver injectable medicines in capsule form.
According to Biograil, the device fits inside a standard double-zero or single-zero capsule. After the capsule dissolves in the stomach, a spring-loaded mechanism attaches the device to the stomach wall and releases the medicine into the tissue for distribution through the body. The company says the bio-compostable device then passes through the gastrointestinal tract.
Biograil plans to use the capital to support preparations for Phase 1 clinical testing, including non-clinical GLP studies and establishing a manufacturing process that meets GMP requirements. The company says it is targeting key milestones ahead of a larger financing round in 2027.
HTGF Principal Anke Cassing said the fund’s participation reflects its continued belief in Biograil’s oral drug-delivery approach as the company prepares for clinical development. CEO Karsten Lindhardt said the financing, alongside non-dilutive funding from partnerships, will support the technology’s progress toward Phase 1 studies.
