At least 24 people were killed in a Russian airstrike on the Ukrainian village of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to Ukraine’s emergency services and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The attack struck a school where humanitarian aid was being distributed, and at least five people were injured.

Rescue teams were searching the rubble for additional victims. Regional military administrator Mykhailo Semikin said 27 people were still missing.

Zelenskyy accused Russia of deliberately targeting the site, arguing that Moscow knew residents who remained in Komyshuvakha regularly gathered there to receive aid. He called for a strong international response, saying the attack sent a signal opposed to efforts toward peace.

The settlement was reportedly hit several times, with more than ten bombs dropped. Zelenskyy said one bomb struck an air-raid shelter directly. Komyshuvakha lies about 25 kilometres east of Zaporizhzhia and just over a dozen kilometres from the front line.

The wider Zaporizhzhia region has repeatedly come under heavy Russian air attacks. An attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia in mid-October killed 23 people, including four minors, according to the report. The region has also been targeted with ballistic missiles, drones and glide bombs, which are launched by Russian aircraft from high altitude and guided toward their targets using satellite navigation.
